As part of a recently completed bachelor\u2019s thesis by Evgin Demirbey, a prototype was developed that addresses this challenge \u2014 aiming to (semi-)automatically identify systematic errors in software functions or sensor systems and thereby support development processes efficiently. <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2158\" height=\"1183\" data-id=\"445644\" src=\"https:\/\/efs-techhub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/TH_BA_Arbeit.jpg-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-445644\" srcset=\"https:\/\/efs-techhub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/TH_BA_Arbeit.jpg-1.png 2158w, https:\/\/efs-techhub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/TH_BA_Arbeit.jpg-1-300x164.png 300w, https:\/\/efs-techhub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/TH_BA_Arbeit.jpg-1-1024x561.png 1024w, https:\/\/efs-techhub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/TH_BA_Arbeit.jpg-1-768x421.png 768w, https:\/\/efs-techhub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/TH_BA_Arbeit.jpg-1-1536x842.png 1536w, https:\/\/efs-techhub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/TH_BA_Arbeit.jpg-1-2048x1123.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2158px) 100vw, 2158px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83c\udfaf Objective of the Thesis<\/h2>\n\n<p>The central question was: &#8220;How can diverse vehicle, sensor, and environmental data be correlated and analyzed so that anomalies in driving behavior or sensor behavior are systematically detected and made interpretable?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n<p>A wide range of data sources was used, including:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Vehicle data <\/strong>such as ego speed, steering angle<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Camera information<\/strong> (e.g., fog, rain, guide posts)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Map attributes <\/strong>such as tunnels and bridges<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udee0\ufe0f Implementation &amp; Methodology<\/h2>\n\n<p>The implementation was carried out in a modular, Python-based analysis pipeline. Key components included: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Isolation Forest:<\/strong> For detecting statistical outliers in high-dimensional data<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Decision Trees: <\/strong>For interpretable classification of detected anomalies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>GUI frontend:<\/strong> For user-friendly visualization and interaction with the results<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>The pipeline was validated using real driving data as well as artificially injected error cases. The goal was to ensure that even complex fault conditions arising from interactions between different sensor sources could be detected. <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2705 Results &amp; Insights<\/h2>\n\n<p>The developed solution proved effective in practice:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Robust detection of anomalies, even in heterogeneous ADAS\/traffic environment data sources<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Visualization and interpretation of results greatly supported root-cause analysis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improved development workflows through targeted indications of optimization potential<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udcaa Challenges &amp; Limitations<\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Overfitting in some decision-tree models<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Redundant features occasionally led to inconsistent results<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sensitivity to poor data quality highlighted the need for further optimization<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> \ud83d\udcd2 Theory Meets Practice<\/h2>\n\n<p>This bachelor\u2019s thesis is the result of close collaboration between the Technical University of Ingolstadt (THI), CARIAD, and TechHub by efs. It exemplifies how academic research and industrial practice come together \u2014 applied R&amp;D at its best. <\/p>\n\n<p>For us, it means not only accompanying innovation but actively shaping it and contributing our expertise as a knowledge partner for future mobility.
